The bar 440 Castro, located at the same address in San Francisco's LGBTQ neighborhood, had to close early Saturday due to a bomb threat, the San Francisco Police Department confirmed to the Bay Area Reporter.

"On 4/22/23 at approximately 12:00 am officers responded to the 400 block of Castro regarding a report of a possible bomb threat," SFPD Public Information Officer Robert Rueca stated in an email Saturday. "Officers arrived on scene and established a perimeter of th[e] area. The occupants of the building evacuated during the investigation. The area was eventually deemed safe and the building clear to be occupied."

Though the bar was determined to be safe to reopen, it did not for the remainder of the early morning hours.

440 Castro did not respond to a request for comment as of press time Saturday; neither has gay District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman.

"Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD 24-hour tip line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD," Rueca concluded.

The B.A.R. will update this story as more information becomes available.
