Pete Buttigieg, President Joe Biden's transportation secretary, was in San Francisco Monday, January 23, to celebrate a $400 million federal grant to make the Golden Gate Bridge more seismically resilient. Buttigieg, the country's first openly gay cabinet secretary, was joined by San Francisco Mayor London Breed, left, and Congressmember Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco). Also on hand were White House Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu and other leaders. The grant was announced in late December, and will complete the final phase of the bridge's seismic retrofit, according to a news release from the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District.
