Lesbian Oakland City Council President Rebecca Kaplan on Thursday endorsed Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren for president.

"Elizabeth Warren knows what's broken in America, she knows how to fix it, and she's building a grassroots movement to get it done," Kaplan said in a statement issued by the Warren campaign.

Warren's campaign will be opening an office in Oakland this Sunday, November 10, and Kaplan is expected to be on hand, along with Warren's California state director Nicole DeMont.

Warren has been building momentum in the crowded 2020 Democratic field, and leads or is tied for first in several recent polls.

"In a Warren administration, we will build affordable housing, secure LGBTQ+ equality, and lift up frontline communities in the fight for environmental justice," Kaplan added. "I know California can count on her to fight for a government and an economy that works for everyone, and I'm proud to endorse her for president."

The Warren campaign's Oakland office is located at 900 Alice Street, #200. The Sunday open house is from 1 to 5 p.m. The general public can RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/californiaforwarren/event/151568/
