50 Years in 50 Weeks: 1981: Cinema, Skinema

As Frameline celebrates its 45th anniversary with online, in-theatres and even drive-in screenings this month, let's look back at coverage of their fifth anniversary in late June 1981. Among the films mentioned are A Woman Like Eve, Gertrude Stein: When This You See, Remember Me, and Greetings From Washington D.C, a documentary about the 1979 March on Washington.

Of course, while the nonprofits relied on editorial coverage and reviews to gain audiences, adult film theaters supported the newspaper that supported the (less graphic) arts, by regularly buying ads.

To the right, a tempting full-page ad for Grease Monkeys, "a Mark Aaron Production," screened at the Century Theater on 816 Larkin Street; presented in SuperVision!
