ADVERTISMENT

Skyler Sanchez, left, takes a flier from Adrienne Guy during an information protest of the upcoming gay rodeo in the Castro Saturday, August 2. Organizer Andrew Zollman said that rodeo events are cruel to animals because they are provoked to buck violently by the use of buck straps or spurs. Gay rodeo organizers have previously stated that their event "cares about animal welfare" and that they adhere to rules of the International Gay Rodeo Association that "strongly penalize any contestant, volunteer, or official who treats any of our animals in an inhumane manner." The 17th annual "Best Buck in the Bay" rodeo takes place August 15-17. For more information on the rodeo, visit http://www.bayarearodeo.com.
