Stanton won’t sue Largo

Former Largo, Florida city manager Steve Stanton said Friday on CNN’s Larry King Live that he would not sue the city. Commissioners voted to fire Stanton last month after he confirmed that he was transitioning to become a woman.

Stanton, 48, appeared on the program with Karen Doering, senior legal counsel at the National Center for Lesbian Rights. Doering told King that the legal team reviewed all possible options for Stanton, who said he decided not to pursue a lawsuit. Doering maintained that he had a very strong case for a discrimination suit.

During the 20-minute interview, Stanton also said that he has begun the process of transitioning by undergoing electrolysis and hormone therapy. He plans to begin living full time as Susan by the end of May, and to eventually undergo sex reassignment surgery. He also said that he and his wife would be separating in June.
