SF journalist honored with matching grant campaign

San Francisco resident Tom Musbach is being honored for his service to the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. Musbach, the former news editor at Planet Out, where he worked for a decade, served on the journalist group’s board and helped plan its annual LGBT Media Summit the last two years.

NLGJA recently announced the Thomas Musbach Challenge Grant, in which an anonymous donor has agreed to match all gifts given to the association as part of the fundraising campaign. For every $2 donated to the campaign, the individual will donate an extra dollar to NLGJA.

The gay media group will use the money raised toward its Leroy F. Aarons Journalism Education Program, through which a journalism student is rewarded for their fair and accurate coverage of LGBT individuals; its Rapid Reponse Task Force, which observes the nation’s media and responds to inaccurate or homophobic coverage; and planning for its annual covention to be held in San Diego in late August 2007.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution can send a check – which references the Thomas Musbach Challenge Grant – to NLGJA at 1420 K Street, NW, Suite 910, Washington, D.C. 20005. Or visit its Web site at
