Outdated Oakland City Council pic

We were searching the Oakland city Web site earlier today and clicked on the city council page to find contact information for new at-large council member Rebecca Kaplan. While we did find that information, we were startled to see an outdated photo of the city council and other top officials (http://www.oaklandnet.com/government/council/city-officials.html). For one thing, former council member Henry Chang was pictured, even though it was his seat to which Kaplan, an out lesbian, was elected. But what really caught our eye was the woman on the far right – none other than former city administrator Deborah Edgerly, who was canned last year by Mayor Ron Dellums after it was revealed that she may have interfered with a police investigation of a relative. (Edgerly has denied wrongdoing and has taken legal action against the city.) Interestingly, Edgerly is standing behind City Attorney John Russo in the photograph.

Andre Jones, Kaplan’s chief of staff, said he is aware of the old picture.

“Tell me about it,” he said. “We’re working on it.”

While we are certainly aware that Oakland officials have a lot to deal with right now, what with four police officers having been shot and killed in the line of duty last weekend, one would think that a current picture should have been posted online by now. After all, Kaplan was sworn in January 5.
