Idaho Sen. Craig announces resignation

Embattled Idaho Senator Larry Craig (R) announced Saturday, September 1 that he intends to resign his seat in the aftermath of his guilty plea to disorderly conduct stemming from his arrest following an incident in an airport men’s room.

Craig made the announcement outside the historic Idaho Depot. “I apologize for what I have done,” Craig said.

“I have limited control over what people say about me,” he said. “It is with sad and deep regret that I intend to resign, effective September 30.”

Last Tuesday, after news of his arrest and guilty plea broke, Craig said he is not gay.

Craig has served in the Senate for 18 years.
