Free No on 8 buttons display years of commitment

Free No on 8 buttons displaying the number of years wearers have been in committed relationships will be distributed Saturday, November 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the front entrance to the San Francisco Ferry Building.

LGBT and straight couples are welcome. Those interested can also go to and make a button they can display digitally for Facebook pages or computer desktops.

Single people can also join in by creating buttons showing the number of years a best friend or family member has been with a partner.

“Our buttons are designed to prompt personal conversations about Proposition 8,” the Noon8button Project said in a statement. “With the barrage of aggressive and negative messages about ballot issues we feel our positive, individual and human message will have particular power and relevance.”

Proposition 8 aims to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California.

So far, 12,000 buttons have been given away by the Noon8button Project, a group of advertising professionals, along with the help of other organizations.
